Active Shooter Reported at Deerbrook Mall; One Injured as Shoppers Evacuated During Saturday Incident
HUMBLE, Texas — A massive law enforcement response is underway at Deerbrook Mall on Saturday after reports of an active shooter prompted a lockdown and the evacuation of shoppers.
Authorities rushed to the shopping centre following reports that a gunshot had been fired inside the mall. Law enforcement officers, sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and emergency medical personnel quickly converged on the scene as shoppers were directed to evacuate the building.
Officials have confirmed that one person has been injured, although the extent of their injuries has not yet been released. No additional information about the victim or a possible suspect has been made public.
The mall remains on lockdown as officers conduct a thorough search of the property and work to ensure there is no ongoing threat.
One shopper described the frightening moments after the gunfire erupted while shopping for back-to-school items.
> “I took Brooke to Deerbrook Mall for some back to school shopping and someone fired a gun and cleared out the mall. We ran into a store with other people but got kicked out because they were shutting down their metal grates. Police, Sheriff, EMS and fire trucks are all over the parking lot.”
Videos and photos circulating on social media appear to show a heavy emergency presence surrounding the mall, with patrol vehicles and ambulances stationed throughout the parking areas as officers continue to secure the scene.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area while the investigation remains active. It is not yet known what led to the shooting or whether any arrests have been made.
